What is Sports Eyewear?

  • Protection: Over 100,000 sports eye injuries are reported every year, with an estimated cost of $175 million. Most injuries often result in permanent damage, and 90% of the injuries could have been prevented. Sports Eyewear protects your eyes not only from injury, but from ultraviolet light as well.

What is Sports Vision Training?

Could blind or partially blind athletes could perform in sports better if they could see better? Of course!  But what you might not know is that those with good vision can also improve their performance if they could see better. We aren't just talking in terms of 20/20 vision, but in using vision skills that are designed specifically for your specific sport. Each sport has different vision skills. In some sports, picking up a fast moving object faster will give an athlete an edge. In other sports, peripheral vision or seeing the whole picture better will give an athlete an edge.  We at A Sight for Sport Eyes create an individual vision training system for your specific sport. By training your eyes to see better for  the skills you require, you can gain a competitive advantage over  your competition.  It has been said that you "Coach from the eyes down”.  A Sight for Sport Eyes Vision Training System trains the eyes for your specific task.

Did you know that over 80 to 90% of perceptual input in sport is visual? However, very few athletes spend any time training their eyes. They train every other muscle in the body except the eye. Vision is both a learned and developed skill, and of all the movement skills required in sports, vision is the last skill to be fully developed and the first to break down in performance.  As the eye leads, the body  will follow.  The eye can be trained just like any other muscle in the body to improve reaction to what they see. Clinical studies have revealed that eye muscles used in an eight hour period of reading (across the page, down, back and across) is equivalent to walking 37 miles.  Through training exercises, you can teach your eyes to focus, locate and center properly to reduce fatigue.

Did you know that approximately 20% of all first graders have visual problems? And by the time they reach the fourth grade, nearly 40% will develop some type of visual inefficiency affecting their learning, schoolwork and, of course, sports activities.  We at A Sight for Sport Eyes Vision Training  focus on the entire visual system including:

Reaction Time
Eye Movements
Acuity
Dynamic Vision

Only professional doctor can only prescribe devices to correct vision to 20/20. We at A Sight for Sport Eyes can take that prescription and fit you with the devices that will give you the best performance whether it be glasses or contact lenses.  We can then screen your eyes to find any sports specific visual errors you might have that prevent you from peak performance.  We identify the visual weaknesses or deficiencies in your game.  Some deficiencies such as color blindness may not be able to be cured, but we can come up with ways to improve performance even with these deficiencies. Most of us have general weaknesses in how we perform visually in a game, and these can be much improved with vision training.  Some athletes will have visual difficulties that will need individual, professional attention and will not benefit from vision exercises alone.  A professional doctor can make the determination if you have eye conditions that will prevent sports vision training from working on its own and can give you the professional attention you need to correct these visual errors.
