Field Hockey Rules Changes

Field Hockey Rules Changes

Prescription Eyewear for Field Hockey Good news for those playing field hockeyAs of 2019, the rules have opened up to allow prescription eyeglass wearers to wear any ASTM F803-rated eyewear. Rule 1.6.5 states:  All field players shall wear eye protection that meets the ASTM standard for field hockey at the time of manufacture. Note: Effective January 1, 2019, all eye protection shall be permanently labeled with the ASTM 2713 standard for field hockey at the time of manufacture. https://unsplash.com/photos/8aSsDPCPXFM?utm_source=unsplash&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=creditShareLink Therefore, this is no longer a PIAA Modification to the 2018 NFHS Rule Book.  The 2018 PIAA Modification to protective eye wear is for prescription eyewear that is necessary for players to wear to participate in Field Hockey. It was unanimously voted to adopt the recommendation of the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee to modify NFHS Field Hockey Rule 1-6-5 to permit players with prescription glasses to wear protective eyewear that meets the ASTM F803 standard. ASTM-certified field hockey eyewear will feature impact-resistant frames and lenses, as well as straps to keep them tight to the face. If a player is wearing Prescription ASTM F803 Recreational Sports Glasses, there is no requirement for the player to wear additional protective eyewear over the prescription eyewear. Previously, styles were really limited.  Now all these can be worn: https://www.sporteyes.com/collections/all-sport-goggles.html

5 Tips for Choosing Kids Swim Goggles

5 Tips for Choosing Kids Swim Goggles

Your everyday swimmers often utilize the same basic equipment: a swimsuit, perhaps a swim cap, and goggles. To have a successful swimming trip or lesson, your kids will need goggles that are tailored to their needs. So, what do you look for when you are trying to find the perfect pair? Here are some things to keep in mind before you make a purchase. What purpose will they serve? Many swimmers may not know that there are different goggles for different swimming activities. Depending on the activity, there are different shades, lens colors, and fits. If you are swimming indoors, then you may not want lenses with a darker shade. What size gasket are you looking for? Generally, the smaller the gasket, the better. When you have a smaller gasket, you are less resistant to water.  But you also must keep in mind that purchasing goggles that feel comfortable on your child’s face is always priority number one. Are the seals made of rubber, silicone, foam, or plastic? This is the part of the goggles that contacts the skin around your eyes and will create pressure around the sockets. In most cases, a silicone or rubber material is optimal because it creates suction around the eyes to keep water out. In recent years, silicone has become a popular choice, but it tends to be a little bit pricier. Also, some people are allergic to latex, which is sometimes found in swimming goggles. If you are allergic to latex, check with the manufacturer to make sure the goggles you are selecting are latex-free. How do they fit around your eyes? You must select a pair of goggles for your child that are neither too big nor too small. If your eyelashes are touching the inside of your goggles when you blink, it is a sign that you might want to opt for a larger pair. Comfort may not seem like a big deal if your child is planning to swim for a short period of time, but if you plan to swim for longer than 30 minutes or so, a comfortable pair will go a long way in helping them enjoy their time in the water. Does your child need a prescription? Owning prescription goggles may not be necessary, but it’s certainly a nice feature. Obviously, you cannot wear your glasses in the water, and anyone who wears contacts knows it can be frustrating trying to swim with contact lenses. Perhaps prescription goggles are the perfect solution for your child. At Sport Eyes, we provide a variety of high-quality children’s swimming goggles for every need.
